Islands and Archipelagos

Although it takes a six-hour flight from Mumbai, since 1977 this island nation is a favourite filming location for Hindi-speaking movies which have captured the natural beauty here comprising of beaches, mountains and plains coupled with modern architecture.
Which island nation, located in Indian Ocean, has no language barrier with Bollywood filmmakers, considering that English is widely spoken across the country, as well as several Indian dialects?
The island was discovered (by Europeans) in 1507 by Portuguese sailors. France took control of the Island in 1715, renaming it Isle de France.
In 1810 the island was seized by Great Britain and it remained a British colony until 1968 when it gained independence.
