Season 112 - Day 13 of 14

American Presidents

The 14th president of the United States is allegedly the first president to bring a Christmas Tree into the White House. This New Hampshire Democrat saw the anti slavery movement as a threat to the unity of the nation. He was the president who signed the Gadsden Purchase of land from Mexico and led a failed attempt to acquire Cuba from Spain.
After his first term in office he did not have sufficient support in the democratic party to secure a nomination for a second term. Instead, the party nominated James Buchanan, who would go on to win the election and become the 15th president of the country.
What is the name of the Christmas Tree-loving 14th president of the United States?
