Microorganisms
These single-celled algae are found in oceans, waterways and soils. They make up nearly half of the organic material found in the oceans and they are estimated to generate 20-50% of the oxygen produced on Earth each year.
The shells of these dead algae cover the ocean floors and the layer of shells can reach a depth of up to 800 meters.
