Season 114 - Day 13 of 14
Mathematicians
This Hellenistic Neoplatonist philosopher, astronomer and mathematician from Alexandria, Egypt wrote a commentary on Diophantus' Arithmetica and another commentary on Apollonius of Perga's treatise on conic sections.
Although she was a pagan herself, she taught and was beloved by many Christians but in 415 AD she was murdered by a mob of Christians for political reasons.
Her murder came as a shock and led future neoplatonists to become increasingly fervent in their opposition to Christianity.
What is the name of "the last of the Hellenes" who was romanticized in an 1853 novel by Charles Kingsley bearing her name?
