The French Revolution
This political club was founded in 1789 by anti-royalists from Brittany in France. It was a central part of the "Reign of Terror" and was known for its motto "live free or die".
The club grew into a nationwide republican movement, with a membership estimated at a half million that consisted of members of the Girondins and the Montagnards - the latter was lead by Maximilien de Robespierre.
Today the members of the club are also remembered for their special hats.
