After having walked El Camino de Santiago, this Brazilian lyricist and novelist (b. 1947) had a spiritual awakening which he would go on to describe in his first novel The Pilgrimage (1986).
The journey also gave him the inspiration for his second novel, The Alchemist (1988). The novel became an international bestseller selling more than 100 million copies and it has been translated into 80 languages.
