This American indie rock band released their debut album August and Everything After in 1993. The album that contained their breakthrough hit single Mr. Jones sold more than 7 million copies in the US. The follow-up album Recovering the Satellites (1996) reached number one on the US Billboard 200 album chart.
The band name is derived from the traditional children’s nursery rhyme “One for Sorrow”, where the number of magpies seen will foresee if one will have bad og good luck.
