During World War I, the Allied Powers’ trade blockade on Chilean saltpeter made it difficult for Germany to produce explosives.
Two German chemists found a way to easily produce ammonia on an industrial scale, something that up to this point had been difficult and highly inefficient.
The ammonia produced compensated for Germany’s lack of saltpeter.
The process is named after the two chemists. What is it called?
