Season 118 - Day 10 of 14

World War II

During World War II this city contributed greatly to the British war effort from its many armaments, munitions, aircraft and aero-engine plants.
On 14 November 1940, it was subject to a massive air raid codenamed Operation Moonlight Sonata by the German Luftwaffe. In 1944, the people of the city wanted to show their support for the Red Army and established a twinning relationship with Stalingrad. Subsequent to the war the city also twinned with Dresden, as a gesture of peace and reconciliation.
Name this city that is the most central in England, being only 18 kilometers south-southwest from the country’s geographical center.
