Season 153 - Day 3 of 14
Medicine
What is the name of the American doctor who is often credited with creating a first aid procedure that if performed successfully will save the patient from choking?
In the procedure the rescuer stands behind the patient performing abdominal thrusts by using her hands to exert pressure on the bottom of the thoracic diaphragm.
This compresses the lungs and exerts pressure on any object lodged in the windpipe, thus hopefully expelling it.
