Season 110 - WE HAVE A NEW CHAMPION !!!

Season 110 was a huge success... 87 quizzers participated (14 of them were new!) which makes this the second-best season ever, when it comes to participation. A large part of the reason for this is that our quizmaster, Sander van der Heyden, did a lot of leg work to get new players to join. So thank you for that, and thank you for making a great set of questions too, of course.

Over the last couple of seasons, I have received some comments that the questions were too easy (comments, not complaints). And this season was no different... at the beginning. When we hit the midway point of the season, I got some comments that the questions were very difficult. And so they were. 4 questions had a difficulty below 10 and one of those questions only had one correct answer – Hasini Minuvanpitiya was the only quizzer to know the Tang Prize on Day 12. But Hasini did not win the season which means that no one got a perfect season... So who ran away with it? 17 time champion Tony Moore got 12 points, 3 time champ John Robinson also managed to get a score of 12 and so did Quizzypedia newcomer Kevin De Smet. But 12 points wasn’t enough. Dorian Willems might have missed the Tang Prize question, but apart from that, his season was flawless. That means, that with 13 points, Dorian Willems is our new champion. This is Dorian’s third championship. Congratulations, please give him a big round of applause!

Some of you might have noticed that Kevin De Smet has 13 points on the final leaderboard, but in the post above, he is mentioned as having "only" 12 points. There is a very logical explanaition for that. The post was written and scheduled late in the evening last nigth, but Kevin turned in a correct answer even later than that. Now, both Dorian and Kevin ended the season with 13 points, so why was there no tie-break? How could I announce Dorian as the winner, when others still could get to 13 points? Because we have a special Day 14 rule - it has just never come into play before. This is an excerpt from the rulebook: On the final day…
