Season 129 was a little on the difficult side - average difficulty 46. Especially the last two questions of the season were particularly hard (just as they should be) – difficulty 7 and 8! Props to Gert-Jan for making such an excellent set of questions (and I do look forward to having that Belgian beer, after winning our bet 😉). A difficult set often means no perfect seasons, and that also proved to be true this time. Three quizzers, David Nadora, Hendrik Scharpenack and Seoan Webb all managed to get thirteen points and that meant that the three top quizzers were going head-to-head (to head) in a tie-break. The topic... Moons orbiting around the 8 planets of our solar system with a radius of 150 kilometers or more. Henrdrik was first out of the gate with 10 answers. However, one of the answers was incorrect (Pluto is no longer considered a planet which makes Charon an incorrect answer) leaving him with a final score of 8 points. David quickly followed suit and with 14 (!) correct answers he was the one to beat.
In a surprising turn of events Ronny Swiggers submitted three correct answers after the tie-break had been activated and that meant that he was also in a position where he could win the season. Ronny also submitted 14 answers, potentially provoking a tie-tie-break against David if all the answers were correct. Unfortunately for Ronny, they weren’t and he ends up at 6 points (personally, I think that naming 14 moons in itself is wildly impressive!). That left only Seoan to potentially steal the trophy from David. However, the at the time of the deadline for submission, no answers had been given. This is perfectly understandable, the quizzers are only given a few hours to answer, and sometimes it is simply not doable. But that means one thing... David is our new champion. This is David’s third championship. Please give him a big round of applause!
